Avengers: Superhero era of our time

Chris Evans as Steve Rogers AKA Captain America
Superheroes are the fictional oddities that make a childhood. Some never extend past the cartoons or comic books, but other like Batman, and Iron Man make it to the big screen. More recently, Marvel’s The Avengers came on the screen, featuring heroes such as the Incredible Hulk, Iron Man, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Thor and Captain America. Children and teenagers and adults alike have been excited for months and even years for this movie. I asked some of Stoller’s students what they felt about the recent movie. “Hated the beginning, loved the end, and great special features at the end!” says Libby.

Action packed, fun, exciting movie...... I liked it.” Eric says, a Media Lit student who recently watched the Avengers. A lot of people enjoyed the action that was put forth, and the special features while others were in love with the superheroes. When a poll was conducted to see the favorite superheroes of both Marvel and DC comics, 5 people liked Thor, 4 for Iron Man, 2 for Captain America, Spiderman and Hulk, and 1 for Batman, Green Lantern, Hawkeye and even Mighty Mouse.

The actors themselves were excited for the Blockbuster movie. On the red carpet L.A Premiere of the Avengers in April, people were bustling and wanted to see their favorite actors talk about such an iconic world

“I just really liked it.” says Eva, when asked about the Avengers movie. Many people couldn’t describe the movie, other than “I liked it.” Marvel, take it as a compliment. “I liked Captain America” AJ said. With each hero being different in both personality and power, the great diversity brings in attention. "They all have there own cool powers and that's cool." AJ tells me. People love the diverse cast and superheroes.

Many different middle schoolers adore superheroes. It brings a lot of people together from different backgrounds to just sit down and read a comic book. Girls and boys alike. Marvel and DC both have done great jobs to make comic book characters come to life.  With Batman: The Dark Knight Rises coming out this summer, the superhero era of our time will not end anytime soon.
